While I was scouring the internet for something interesting to blog about in the Motor City, I happened across the website of a global organization called WeWork that buys buildings and rents out work space on a month-to-month basis. Their moto is, “Make a Life, Not Just a Living.”
So you’re probably wondering what’s so revolutionary about that. I mean, people have always rented work space. Well, the thing that I found intriguing about WeWork, is the fact that they rent individual work spaces month-to-month.
You have the option to choose a seat in a:
Private Office for $500 per person a month
Designated Work space for $350 per person a month
Hot Desk in the Communal Area for $250 per person a month.
Some of the amenities include; parking and bike storage, onsite staff, cleaning services, phone booths if you need privacy while on the phone, fruit water to keep you hydrated throughout the day, printing services, high-speed internet, conference rooms and professional and social events for networking.
If the perks aren’t enough to wow, you have this opportunity to work amongst a community of people with the same mindset, each one goal-oriented, and focused. There’s nothing like being in a room full of positive people who have that same drive to succeed as you have. It’s inspiring, to say the least.
Writing is a pretty isolated profession, especially for those of us who work from home. Sometimes I crave that human contact, without the distraction and aggravation that comes with letting someone into my space who doesn’t understand that I want company while I work, but I don’t want to be bothered.
“They probably don’t have any offices in Detroit” was my first thought when I happened across this hidden jewel, but I was wrong. They actually have two locations in the downtown area, “Campus Martius” and “Merchants Row” both on Woodward Avenue.
I have gone ahead and set up a tour of the Campus Martius Office for the 22nd of January, at which time I will most likely rent a space for a month, and blog about the experience afterwards… Cheers!
See you out there…
